Introduction

Mythic+ is one of the most popular endgame activities in World of Warcraft. Unlike regular dungeons, Mythic+ offers an endless scaling challenge where enemies become stronger, mechanics become more punishing, and better rewards await players who can complete increasingly difficult keys.
Whether you’re completely new to Mythic+ or you’re looking to understand how the system works in detail, this guide covers everything from unlocking your first Keystone to understanding Mythic+ Rating, Affixes, rewards, timers, and progression.
By the end of this guide, you’ll know exactly how Mythic+ works and how to start pushing higher keys with confidence.
What is mythic+?
Mythic+ (often shortened to M+) is a scalable dungeon system introduced to provide challenging repeatable endgame content.
Instead of having a fixed difficulty, every dungeon can be completed at increasingly higher Keystone levels.
Each increase in Keystone level makes enemies:
- Deal more damage
- Have more health
- Become more difficult because of additional Affixes
Unlike Normal, Heroic, or Mythic 0 dungeons, Mythic+ has no maximum difficulty. Players continue pushing higher Keystone levels to earn better rewards, improve their Mythic+ Rating, and challenge themselves.
What is a Mythic Keystone?
A Mythic Keystone is the item required to begin a Mythic+ dungeon.
Every Keystone contains:
- A specific dungeon
- A Keystone Level (for example +2, +7, +12, or +18)
- The active weekly Affixes
For example:
Ruby Life Pools +10
means you’ll run Ruby Life Pools on Keystone Level 10 with that week’s active Affixes.
Each player owns their own Keystone, although the entire party can join regardless of whose key is being used.
How to Unlock Mythic+
Getting started is simple.
- Complete any Mythic 0 dungeon.
- At the end of the dungeon you’ll usually receive your first Keystone.
- You can also obtain a Keystone from your Great Vault if you’ve completed Mythic+ during the previous week.
Once you own a Keystone, you can begin running Mythic+ dungeons immediately.
How to Start a Mythic+ Dungeon

Starting a Mythic+ run requires five players:
- 1 Tank
- 1 Healer
- 3 Damage Dealers
To begin:
- Travel to the dungeon entrance.
- Set the dungeon difficulty to Mythic.
- Enter the dungeon.
- Interact with the Font of Power located near the entrance.
- Insert your Keystone.
- Every player confirms they’re ready.
- The countdown begins.
- The timer starts immediately.
From this moment, every second matters.
Understanding the Mythic+ Timer
Every Mythic+ dungeon has a fixed time limit.
Your objective is simple:
- Defeat every required boss.
- Reach the required Enemy Forces percentage.
- Finish before time expires.
Completing the dungeon before the timer expires upgrades your Keystone and awards the highest possible completion rewards.
Failing the timer does not mean the dungeon is over.
You can still finish the dungeon, receive end-of-run loot, gain Mythic+ Rating (depending on your best run), and count the dungeon toward your Great Vault progress, But your keystone gonna get depleted to a lower level, unless you have a resilient keystone.
The timer only determines how your Keystone upgrades.
How Keystone Upgrades Work
When you complete a dungeon within the timer, your Keystone upgrades based on how much time remains.
+1 Upgrade
Finish the dungeon before the timer expires.
Example:
+10 becomes +11.
+2 Upgrade
Beat the timer by a significant margin.
Example:
+10 becomes +12.
+3 Upgrade
Finish extremely quickly, well ahead of the timer.
Example:
+10 becomes +13.
The exact time required for +2 or +3 upgrades depends on the dungeon’s upgrade thresholds.
If you fail the timer but complete the dungeon, the Keystone is typically downgraded by one level and changes to another dungeon for the next run.
Every Mythic+ Affix Explained

Affixes are special modifiers that make Mythic+ dungeons more challenging.
As Keystone levels increase, additional Affixes become active.
Affixes change every week, creating different challenges and encouraging players to adapt their strategies.
Common Affix categories include:
Fortified
Non-boss enemies have significantly increased health and deal more damage.
Tyrannical
Bosses have greatly increased health and their abilities hit much harder.
Xal’atath Seasonal Affixes
Seasonal Affixes are unique mechanics introduced for the current Mythic+ season. They often spawn special enemies or objectives that reward players for handling them correctly, while punishing groups that ignore them.
Because seasonal mechanics can change between seasons, players should always review the current season’s Affix before pushing higher keys.
How Mythic+ Rating Works
Mythic+ Rating measures your overall performance across every dungeon in the current season.
Your total rating is calculated using:
- The highest Tyrannical run for each dungeon.
- The highest Fortified run for each dungeon.
Completing both versions of every dungeon gives the maximum possible score.
Higher Keystone levels award more rating, while timing the dungeon grants additional rating compared to an overtime completion.
This rating is commonly used by players when forming groups through the Group Finder.
( ATM in midnight both Tyrannical and Fortified are included in everyweek )
Mythic+ Rewards
Completing Mythic+ dungeons provides several rewards:
- End-of-dungeon gear
- Crests and upgrade currencies
- Mythic+ Rating
- Great Vault progress
- Achievements
- Seasonal titles and rewards (when available)
Higher Keystone levels generally provide higher item level rewards.
Great Vault Rewards
Every completed Mythic+ dungeon contributes toward your weekly Great Vault.
The more dungeons you complete each week, the more reward choices become available.
Your highest completed Keystone levels determine the quality of the gear offered when the weekly reset arrives.
Even if a run is completed overtime, it still counts toward Great Vault progress.
Common Mythic+ Mistakes to Avoid
Many players struggle in Mythic+ not because of their gear, but because of common gameplay mistakes. Avoiding these errors can significantly improve your success rate and help you climb to higher Keystone levels.
Ignoring Interrupts
One of the biggest mistakes new players make is ignoring enemy casts. Many trash mobs have abilities that can wipe the group if they are not interrupted. Learning which spells to kick should always be a priority.
Standing in Avoidable Damage
Most Mythic+ deaths happen because players fail mechanics rather than lacking gear. Always move out of dangerous ground effects and pay attention to boss mechanics.
Overpulling Enemy Packs
Pulling too many enemies at once may save time if done correctly, but it often leads to unnecessary deaths and failed runs. Unless your tank has a planned route, avoid pulling extra packs.
Forgetting Defensive Cooldowns
Defensive abilities are just as important as offensive cooldowns. Using them proactively can prevent deaths and reduce pressure on the healer.
Holding Cooldowns Too Long
Many players save their major cooldowns for the “perfect moment” and end up using them only once or twice during an entire dungeon. It’s generally better to use cooldowns frequently to maximize overall damage..
Chasing Damage Meters
High DPS is important, but surviving mechanics and completing the dungeon is always more valuable than topping the damage meter.
Best Classes for Mythic+
There is no single “best” class in Mythic+, as class balance changes throughout every season. Blizzard regularly applies buffs and nerfs, causing the meta to evolve over time.
Instead of choosing a class solely because it’s considered meta, it’s usually better to play a specialization you understand well. A skilled player on a B-tier class will often outperform an inexperienced player on an S-tier class.
If you’re looking for the strongest specs in the current season, we maintain an up-to-date Mythic+ Tier List that is updated whenever major balance changes are released.
When choosing a class, consider:
- Damage output
- Survivability
- Utility
- Crowd Control
- Interrupt availability
- Group buffs
- Mobility
These factors often matter more than raw damage alone, especially in higher Keystone levels.

Tips to Increase Your Mythic+ Rating
Improving your Mythic+ Rating takes more than simply running higher keys. Consistent progress comes from completing every dungeon efficiently on both Fortified and Tyrannical weeks.
Complete Every Dungeon
Don’t focus on only a few dungeons. Your total Mythic+ Rating comes from every dungeon in the current season.
Time Your Keys
A timed completion awards considerably more rating than an overtime run. Learning dungeon routes and mechanics is the easiest way to consistently beat the timer.
Upgrade Lower Scores First
If one dungeon is significantly lower than the rest, improving that score usually gives more rating than pushing your highest key even further.
Build a Consistent Group
Playing with the same teammates improves communication, route planning, and overall success compared to random groups.
Learn Dungeon Routes
Experienced groups know exactly which enemies to pull, which packs to skip, and where to use major cooldowns. Studying routes before entering a dungeon can make a huge difference.
Analyze Your Runs
After each dungeon, think about what caused deaths or time loss. Small improvements each run eventually lead to much higher Keystone levels.
The fastest way to gain Mythic+ Rating is not simply running harder keys—it’s consistently timing every dungeon while steadily improving your weakest scores.
